vista tutorial

To use vista you must first download the software. Once you have installed the software, go through the installation page. Which will take you step by step through the building process. Then to make sure the program works properly, I found it helpful to go through quick start guide. The guide is also a good reference tool when using vista. *Note-If you wish to use HDF4 files with vista, you must first extract the datasets into a binary format. HDF4 has a utility that does just that called HDP it can be found here.*

Here is how to extract binary datasets from HDF4:
Scd /Archive/SimulatedClusterArchive/COOL/CLRC01/VOL
Sget clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.hdf.gz
gunzip clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.hdf.gz
/usr/local/hdf4/bin/hdp dumpsds -n Density -o
clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.dens -b clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.hdf
Here is how to run vista with this binary dataset:
[user@cass examples]$ ../svt_build/vista/vista  --raw 64 64 64 --msb
--minmax 40 100  --outformat png  clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.dens
Set ne mode!
Parm=clrc01_0000_1mpc_l7_halo0.dens
now build the volume Call
RAWFormatMM::CanDecode!
Set MBF!
FES=1048576
RAWFormatMM::CanDecode!
Set MBF!
FES=1048576
Entire Data Set Fits in Memory 1048576! - Prefetch!
ImageSize=384000
No HDR support using normal frame buffer!
Name Frame Buffer 2
[user@cass examples]$ display img_00000.png
