Getting Started

by streeter last modified 2007-03-30 05:04

LCAVision is simple & unimposing. The interface may not continue to look exactly the same as depicted below (hey, it's fattening up with all your requests!). But the core process you go through to visualise data should not change much.

If it does, well, we'll just have to update this page and all the rest of our vast documentation so you know. So we have a definite interest in preserving the simple, several-step paradigm shown below.

Essentially, LCAVision is designed to work like a waterfall, transmitting your data from the source at the top of the interface (your file), down through our tools, and out to the render window (the sink, if you will) at the other end. When doing anything in LCAVision, you will mostly be working top-down like this:

1. First click on the tool set you want to use for visualisation for your datafile. The various choices include "Unigrid Tools", "Particle Tools", and "AMR Tools". This is an important step that is easily forgotten, which is why it is highlighted here in red and which is why in newer releases of LCAVision there is a reminder under a button labeled "File Format" atop the Vision interface.

2. Specify a data file you wish to open with the "Search For..." button or by typing the name next to "File Name:" and typing the Enter key on your keyboard or "Open File" button.

3. Select the file name and component(s), & any options to apply.

4. Click on the desired tooltab. Your options here will include such headings as "Iso", "Slice", and "Particles".

5. Click "Create New Instance."

6. A name gets added to this browser. Click on names to view/alter states of the associated part s of the rendering.

7. Have fun. Make us look good.
